Hello Stylish Readers!

My ever changing changing body has given me the opportunity me to put my personal styling skills to good use and explore styles I may not have tried before.

I am having so much fun experimenting with my style by leaning into different aesthetics and applying learned style principles to get more wear out of what I own and assess whether I need some new items to carry me through pregnancy and beyond.

I’ve been thinking about my personal style again and asking myself how it needs to evolve. Perhaps this is a reflection of the season of life I am in, or a way to exert some control over a situation (birth and motherhood) that is quite unknown. Regardless of the why, playing with fashion and meeting my body where it is right now is empowering.

When I style new pieces, experiment with new looks and troll through Depop for hidden treasures, I remind myself how much joy, power and confidence there is in determining your personal style.

Does your personal style reflect the woman you want to present to the world?

Does your wardrobe allow you to get dressed with ease and confidence?

If you answered no to either of these questions, our Personal Styling Packages are just want you need. Hit reply and let’s have a chat about how I can help x

Style Principle #27: Meet You Body Where It Is Right Now

When curating a wardrobe and thinking about your personal style, it’s important to dress for the body you have, not the body you wish you had.

If you navigated your late teens or early 20s between 1997 and 2008 (give or take), you were bombarded with fad diets (cabbage soup anyone?) and tabloid magazines that circled women’s cellulite when they were in bikinis, as if it was unacceptable and not completely natural.

That’s over a decade of magazines and newspapers abusing our subconscious at our most impressionable age, telling us that our natural bodies just aren’t good enough and we shouldn’t dare wear a fitted top or mini skirt unless we have “washboard abs” or “smooth skin”.

It is no wonder that as adult women we are self conscious of showing certain body parts. We place limitations on the types of clothes we wear - “I can’t wear a mini skirt. I’m over 40!”; “My arms aren’t toned enough to wear sleeveless tops” - and stop ourselves from exploring our personal style until we’ve lost a few kilos.

Give yourself permission to dress the body you have. This is an important step in embracing your personal style and building a wardrobe that energises you and gives you confidence. Fit is King after all.

If you have heard yourself say, “I can’t wear that”, unpack why you have placed that limitation on yourself. Is this something you actually believe? Or is it a falsehood that is ingrained in your psyche (through no fault of your own) by a toxic, mysoginistic media culture? These unconscious biases are holding you back from exploring your style.

There is nothing worse than waking up in the morning and hating everything you put on because it’s uncomfortable and doesn’t fit who you are today.

Dressing for your body is an important step in feeling comfortable with where you are at right now, so that you can gain the strength and confidence to make changes and achieve the goals you set for yourself.

You deserve to feel confident and powerful or chic and beautiful when you get dressed each day, no matter your age or size.

Now is the perfect time determine your personal style and empower yourself with the tools you need to get dressed with ease and confidence.

Personal style is about so much more than clothes. Getting dressed is an opportunity to present who you are and who you want to be to the world. The confidence that comes from leaning into your personal style is immeasurable.

Investing in your personal style gives a great return. You’ll start to feel more like you, build your confidence and stop spending money on clothes you don’t wear.

If you’re feeling disheartened about your personal style, view our Personal Styling Packages or book a free 15 minute call. Let’s chat about your challenges and how I can help.

IN THE KNOW

CONTENT WE’RE LOVING THIS WEEK

#1 WE’RE READING - Yellowface by R.F Kuang

June and Athena were supposed to rise to literary fame together. Only, no-one wants to hear what June has to say. It must be because she’s “a basic, white girl”.

So when June witnesses Athena’s death, she acts on impulse. She steals her friend’s novel and publishes it as her own. The novel is a “masterpiece” about the unsung contributions of Chinese laborers to the British and French war efforts during World War I.

Navigate the inner workings of June’s mind as she attempts to justify her thievery, protect her secret and learn “exactly how far she will go to keep what she thinks she deserves”.

Yellowface is a satirical commentary on diversity, racism, and cultural appropriation in the publishing industry.

It is brilliant!
