Weekly Style Thoughts
How I’m Styling Myself Strong
It’s been awhile since my last Newsletter… Time really flies when you’re navigating new motherhood, a child who slept like a new born for 6.5 months and a house move.
Prior to the birth of my daughter, I had naively hoped to continue popping into your inboxes weekly. My matrescence had other plans.
To lean into a cliché, becoming a mother has, undoubtably, been my biggest challenge yet.
It is as if I all my thoughts, values, goals, beliefs and ideals are being shaken up like ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Yet, I don’t have a recipe and have no idea which glass to use.
Naturally, as I navigate this identify shift, I am figuring out how my role as a business owner and personal stylist needs to evolve to accomodate motherhood.
Whilst I had intended to pick things up again when my daughter was 6 months old, the mammoth task of building a business, which requires motivation, dedication, TIME and, above all else, self-confidence, seemed incredibly daunting.
As a new mother I felt (feel?) raw, delicate, exposed. Like your skin after a sun burn.
Perhaps a snake shedding its skin is a better metaphor. You shed parts of your old self. The foundations of you are still there, but until the new skin forms you are tender and fragile.
I wasn’t sure when or how to return and right after I had given birth, I had an unfortunate experience and it made be question whether I was cut out for running a business.
Then, in November, a previous client reached out to asked if I was available to do a personal shop and refresh her wardrobe for the year ahead. She wanted to take her style back as she entered her 40s and she wanted me to help her.
I took it as a sign to jump back in.
For myself and for my daughter. Because I want her to see her mother chasing her dreams, being of service, and building something she believes in, even if it scares her.
Getting clear on your personal style, finding your power and confidence in your clothes, knowing how to get dressed with ease and confidence are all values I, wholeheartedly, believe in. I
In January, I opened the doors on Aura again. So far, I have had the absolute joy of styling:
a returning client looking to refresh her wardrobe and lean into her sexy, feminie side as she celebrates entering into her 40s;
a gorgeous bride-to-be. T levelled up and added on a Cleanse Package to get clear on her everyday style and get more wear out of her current wardrobe;
a mum of two, returning to work after 11 months of maternity leave and who was stepping into an executive role at a bank. We got absolutely clear on her personal style, styled up her current wardrobe pieces and completely refreshed her work wardrobe (shout out to Viktoria and Woods for stellar tailoring and gorgeous pieces that can be styled for work and mum-life);
a teacher who wanted to stop feeling like she was dressing like her teenage self and start dressing like the powerful, stunning woman that she is. This gave her the confidence to chase a promotion, which she heard she got shortly after our shopping session (We had no doubts there). She stepped into that new role in absolute style;
a tech-sales superstar who wanted efficiency in her wardrobe, and to bring her minimal, classic, quiet luxury aesthetic to life; and
I continued working with a client on an ongoing basis in a “membership” capacity. A client whose personal style has grown leaps and bounds as she steps into her confidence, plays with different combinations and dresses how she wants to feel…
with more amazing, brave woman waiting to get started in June and July!
Safe to say I am officially back and offering Personal Styling services (both in-person and virtual). So… what are you waiting for?
