ICYMI I am currently growing a tiny human. I won’t be taking new clients from 15 April so if you want to work with me before I head on maternity leave, get in touch!

Hello, Hello!

I encourage you to read this whilst listening to Beyonce’s new album because she has OUT DONE HERSELF. My favs are II Most Wanted, her cover of Blackbird and Bodyguard (What a bop).

A big week for me as I completed two Wardrobe Cleanses - one virtual (that’s our Enliven Package which you can check out here) and one in-person (Part of our Empower Package. Our most comprehensive option. See here).

I absolutely love the diversity of my clients’ personal styles and lifestyles. A fabulous mum of three girls who wants to come back to herself and bring her comfortable, feminine and sexy style to life. A stunning woman in her 20s living in rural NSW, who wants to nail her luxe Western style.

It’s such an honour empowering women with the tools they need to define their personal style, create wardrobes that are filled with pieces they love and shop with confidence.

As tough as building a business can be (especially when you are also growing a human), I am pinching myself that I get to call this my “job”.

Every like, share and subscribe encourages me to keep going. If you aren’t able to invest in a personal styling package, sharing, commenting and liking a social media post, telling your friends about Aura, or, better yet, sharing this newsletter and encouraging someone to subscribe, are some of the ways you can show your support.

Have a stylish weekend x

Building a Considered Wardrobe

A considered wardrobe is filled with pieces you love, that suit your style, body, lifestyle and allow you to get dressed with ease (i.e. they mix and match).

To build a considered wardrobe you need to have an understanding of your personal style and the pieces that work for your body and, here’s the kicker, be ruthlessly honest with yourself when you are considering a new purchase (This podcast episode is a great foray into how to determine your personal style. We’ve also written about taking control of your personal style and determining your style uniform (both Newsletters are linked)).

Everyone enjoys a new item. A little present “To: me, From: me” waiting on the doorstep or carried gleefully in a bag after a quick “whip round the shops”. As much as a new item can bring us joy, the joy will be fleeting and the new item will only exacerbate any overwhelm you’re feeling about your wardrobe if you purchase is impulsive.

When you’re considering buying a new item - the name is on the tin here - it must be considered.

To be considered, a new purchase should meet these criteria:

  1. it can be styled 5 ways or more with pieces you already own;

  2. it aligns with your personal style, style words and/or your style goals;

  3. it fills a gap in your wardrobe. In other words, you don’t own anything similar that can fulfil the same purpose; and

  4. it suits your lifestyle, which means you can picture yourself wearing the piece in your day-to-day life. This is particularly important. For example, if you live in a more tropical climate, investing in a pair of knee high leather boots and a wool coat for Winter would be impractical because the temperature barely drops below 20 degrees. If you spend most of your time on a playground, grabbing a casual coffee and running around after kids, a pair of kitten, sling back heels isn’t going to fit seamlessly into your wardrobe (a pair of ballet flats, on the other hand, will give you a similar aesthetic, but be better suited to your lifestyle).

Building a considered wardrobe through thoughtful purchases will positively change the way you feel about dressing. It stops those wasted purchases, helps you better understand your style and is an important step to becoming your best (dressed) self.

IN THE KNOW

CONTENT WE’RE LOVING THIS WEEK

In her opinion piece for The Cut, Christie states her case for marrying older and using her “youth” as her superpower to make her life easier.

It has caused quite the stir on socials this past week.

Some people were offended (It is the internet after all). Some agreed. Some were intrigued (that’s us!).

We’ll leave you with these thoughts: “When we decided we wanted to be equal to men, we got on men’s time. We worked when they worked, retired when they retired, had to squeeze pregnancy children, menopause somewhere impossible in the margins…

There is no brand of feminism which achieved female rest. If women’s problem in the ‘50s was a paralysing malaise, now it is that they are too active, too capable, never permitted a vacation they didn’t plan…”

We’d love to know your take.

#1 WE’RE LISTENING TO - Cillian Murphy on Desert Island Discs

Desert Island Discs is an absolute fan favourite around here and this episode with Cillian Murphy does not disappoint, mainly because Cillian Murphy seems like the most wholesome male actor ever (he’s definitely a person we’d love to have to dinner) and his song choices are fabulous.

Hope you enjoy!

#3 WE’RE WATCHING - Next in Fashion on Netflix

This is SUCH a fun, fashion filled show!

Watch as up and coming designers compete for $250,000 and a partnership with an established fashion retailer to catapult their designs to success.

A melting pot of creativity, Next In Fashion, is hosted by Tan France who is joined by Alexa Chung in Season 1 and Gigi Hadid in Season 2 as co-host.

— STYLE TRACKSUIT PANTS —

Since the dawn of COVID, Athleisure has skyrocketed.

Athleisure coupled with the rising influence of the 00s, has seen a rise in popularity of striped trackies (The Upside do this gorgeous pair. Cotton On has this wallet friendly alternative and Ruby, our personal fave, do this fabulous red pair).

This week, take your trackies from couch to lunch by styling them with a blazer and fitted tee, button up shirt, leather jacket or a chunky knit. Finish the look off with a pair of boots, pointed loafers or even heels for a more elevated outfit.
